About Us
Diverse Kids, ABA Multicultural Center is a part of the Patricia Munoz Psychological and Research Center.
The center was founded with the experience of over 24 years in applied behavior analysis, special education and psychology.
In 1996, Dr. Patricia Muñoz founded in São Paulo, Brazil, a special education school that serves children and youth with autism and cerebral palsy. This school offers elementary and middle school education and also offers clinical services for the community.
During 16 years, Dr. Munoz was the owner and director of the school and she brought innovative techniques to accommodate the population that she served.
Dr Munoz’ school received six awards of the best school in the sector of specialized schools, the certification by UNESCO for the associated school program, and the certification by the state government of São Paulo to serve and assist students with special needs.
In February 2019, Dr. Munoz founded Patricia Munoz Psychological and Research Center to offer the ABA services to kids and youths diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Our mission is to create an appropriate, culturally competent environment to provide quality, person-centered, evidence-based practices to enhance the lives of families and individuals we serve.
About Dr Munoz
I have a degree in Psychology with a specialization in Neuropsychology. I completed my Master's and Doctorate at the Institute of Psychology at University of São Paulo. During my Master's I researched about animal-assisted therapy and interaction with children with autism and in my PhD I studied how children with autism recognize emotions.
During my PhD I was also able to study at Harvard Medical School where I completed, among other subjects, a course on Child Psychotherapy and another on risk and self-injurious behaviors.
I worked for 16 years as director and owner of a special education school in São Paulo - Brazil, which gave me the opportunity to get to know and study several clinical cases such as cerebral palsy, down syndrome and autism spectrum disorder.
After these years at the head of the special education school and the multidisciplinary clinic, I moved to Houston, Texas and worked for 2 years as the coordinator of an organization that serves refugee children and adolescents. It was an excellent experience and I was able to work with clinical cases that involved trauma and cultural adaptation.
